Jeep Grand Cherokee 2024: Breaking New Ground in First Class

Choosing a new vehicle is more challenging than ever, especially in the SUV market. There are dozens of subcategories, many claiming to offer increased off-road features when, in reality, they only offer rugged aesthetics. However, this is not the case with the Jeep Grand Cherokee, which offers genuine off-road driving capabilities. Furthermore, it is one of the most luxurious and comfortable vehicles in its segment.

Jeep hasn't added much new to the Grand Cherokee lineup for 2024. There are a few minor enhancements, such as new 18-inch wheels for the Trailhawk version. Otherwise, the American manufacturer's SUV remains essentially the same, which is a very good thing. It's worth noting that the Jeep Grand Cherokee has just undergone a complete redesign. I would even go as far as to say it's one of the most modern models in its category currently.

Range and Pricing

If you're interested in the Jeep Grand Cherokee, I suggest you prepare for some extensive reading, as it offers a wide variety of versions. Its starting price is $59,465 for the regular version and $61,465 for the L versions. There are six different versions for the regular model and six versions for the Grand Cherokee L. So, the price can go up to $86,465, which is reasonable considering what you're getting here. Unfortunately, the price range for the 4xe version has not yet been revealed at the time of writing.

Category and Competition

The Jeep Grand Cherokee has evolved significantly since its introduction to the market. Once a simple full-size SUV, it is now one of the most refined and luxurious vehicles in its segment. In fact, serious questions arise about the category to which the model now belongs. In theory, it is a midsize SUV for the general public. However, most journalists seem to agree that it now straddles the line between luxury models and mainstream models. The Jeep brand is where Land Rover was just a few years ago. I'm not saying Jeep will soon only offer outrageously priced luxury vehicles, but we're getting closer little by little.

Rivals: Chevrolet Traverse, Ford Explorer, GMC Acadia, Honda Pilot, Hyundai Palisade, Kia Telluride, Subaru Ascent, Toyota Highlander, Toyota 4Runner, Volkswagen Atlas

Design and Technologies

Jeep has done an excellent job of giving the Grand Cherokee a new, more modern and evolved appearance while retaining enough of its DNA to be recognizable at first glance. For me, it's a standout; the American manufacturer's SUV has everything going for it. It's both rugged and very elegant. I also really like that Jeep offers two-tone configurations as standard.

As for the interior, the 2024 Grand Cherokee is flawless. In fact, you'd think you were in a luxury vehicle given the impeccable finish and elevated style. The designers made excellent choices in terms of color combinations for the cabin.

In terms of technology, Jeep once again has a lead over the competition. Its multimedia system is one of the simplest and most enjoyable to use on the market. The navigation is smooth and very fast. The driving assistance technologies are effective without being too intrusive.

Performance

The Jeep Grand Cherokee offers several engine options, starting with the classic 3.6-liter V6 engine. This engine, found in the majority of Stellantis products, boasts 293 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. It's paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and standard 4x4 drivetrain. In fact, it's one of the only vehicles in its category to offer this type of drivetrain, making it one of the most capable SUVs for off-road driving.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is also one of the few SUVs still available with a V8 engine. In this case, it's the legendary 5.7-liter Hemi engine with 357 horsepower and 390 pound-feet of torque. Admittedly, these figures are not as impressive as they once were, but this engine has proven itself over many years.

Finally, the Jeep Grand Cherokee is also offered in a 4xe version, which means it benefits from the same powertrain found in the Wrangler essentially. It's a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine paired with two electric motors. This combination offers a total power output of 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. The best part is that it allows the American manufacturer's SUV to achieve an average fuel consumption of 10.3 L/100 km in the city and 9.7 L/100 km on the highway.

Weaknesses

The bill quickly rises from one version to another. There's no longer an SRT version available.

Strengths

The 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee is elegant, comfortable, and it doesn't lack anything in terms of equipment. It's also one of the only models in its segment available with a plug-in hybrid powertrain, which certainly gives it an advantage over the competition.

Signature Element

The 2024 Grand Cherokee is a true benchmark in its category. It's one of the most versatile SUVs on the market.

Closing Words

There's a reason why the Jeep Grand Cherokee has been so popular for so many years. It's a vehicle that can meet the needs of the majority of buyers, and its price range remains reasonable considering what it offers.
